2008 will see the start of all of the properties in the StayNorthumbria stable doing their bit to reduce the carbon footprint.  As a company our office based systems have been scrutinised and we will have adopted a policy of recycling - paper, ink cartridges and anything else that we can identify.  Our laundry has taken our policies on-board and has pledged to launder our bedding and towels with eco-friendly products.  We have adopted a policy to purchase the contents of welcome packs locally wherever possible and to use organic & local  produce where we can.

Our toilet rolls and kitchen rolls are made from recycled materials.  Most of our stationery, will be printed on recycled paper. We have changed to a green electricity supplier for our office and properties.  Our properties all have some degree of rainwater harvesting system.

All properties are insulated and double glazed, and those which are heated with electricity are supplied by green electricity suppliers

All of the properties will be cleaned with non-chemical products, and only in the most severe cases will stronger products be used, to achieve cleanliness. i.e. stain removers/bleach. 

In addition you can help us achieve our aims whilst you are with us.  We have provided a recycling bin into which you can put plastic bottles, cardboard, paper and aluminimum and tin cans (please wash them out first).  There is a separate container provided for glass.  We have also provided composting facilities at Hastings House & The Bothy Beadnell. 

We have undertaken a rolling programme to a) replace light bulbs with energy efficient ones, and aim to have this complete before the end of the year. b) to replace appliances with AAA energy rated ones as they need replacing.

We would ask you to turn your televisions off when not in use and not to leave them in standby, and to be conscientious in turning lights off when not in use. Outside lights will operate on dusk till dawn energy efficient bulbs.

You will find in each property a full list of the eco-friendly measures applicable to the house in which you are staying.
